COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 1
Computers are used by EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE! Just about everything we see on TV and the Internet, or read in newspapers and books started as keystrokes entered into a computer by a keyboard operator. A computer processes data at the same speed for everyone, but if a person can key 60 words a minute he will produce twice as much work as a person who keys 30 words a minute; therefore, the first 7 lessons in this course review and reinforce alphabetic and numeric “by touch” keyboard skills. Proper keying technique is emphasized. The second area of emphasis is the accuracy of copy produced, and a third area of emphasis is placed on speed. This course also teaches formatting (skills which include, arranging, spacing, and the placing of copy in an appropriate, acceptable manner). E-mails, memos, reports, letters, and tables are taught using the features of the student’s word processing software. Language skills (sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, number expressions, proofreading and composition) are also developed in this course.
