MATHEMATICS 8A
This course gives instruction in writing numbers in exponential and standard forms and in scientific notation. It gives practice in writing inequalities and rounding of whole numbers and decimals. There are exercises in changing from one unit to another in the metric system. There are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Problems with variables are included. Finding the least common multiple and the greatest common factor are introduced. Practice is given in reducing fractions to the lowest terms. Addition and subtraction of positive and negative numbers is included. There are exercises in solving an equation with a variable. Various types of graphs and charts are included for the student to interpret. There is also an introduction to experimental probability.
