SOPHOMORE ENGLISH 1 BASIC

This is a basic level course and requires counselor approval for enrollment!

This course is designed for students who desire to improve their reading, writing, and grammar skills in order to meet English and literature competency requirements for the sophomore student. The focus is on writing sentences, writing different kinds of sentences, and writing paragraphs. Grammar study includes parts of speech and analysis of sentences, phrases, and clauses. Composition emphasis is on writing to inform, describe, compare, and summarize. The scope and sequence of literature enhances reading comprehension, literary skills, vocabulary, process writing, critical thinking, and viewing. High-interest reading selections present the short story, and drama forms and such themes as adventure and mystery. Successful completion of the course indicates achievement in basic writing competencies prescribed for the first semester of sophomore English.
