Blueprint Education & YoungLives

Helping young and expectant moms graduate from high school

YoungLives of the East Valley held its annual “More Precious than Pearls” Sunday Tea, on April 25th at the Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert, Arizona. This fundraising event helps to send thirty Young Moms to summer camp, where they learn leadership and teamwork skills, gain parenting support, and have fun! The event kicked off with a silent auction and raffle followed by a delicious lunch. The highlight of the program was the testimonial of one young mom and two YoungLife Mentors.  Their stories were deeply touching and made us all realize how we all can make our lives, and the lives of others, “More Precious than Pearls.”

Blueprint Education, who helped sponsor this event, and YoungLives (website) are semi-finalists in the “Sharing the Prize Seed” grant.  This $25,000 grant will help to build support for these Young Moms so they may continue their high school education.  We believe that a partnership between YoungLives and Blueprint Education, having common goals for young people, will only strengthen the mission of each group, ultimately helping these young ladies find their way as they prepare themselves for the workplace and a place in their community.  We believe that the young mothers this project will reach have unlimited opportunities for future success.  It is up to us, as their mentors and educators, to make sure we do not fail them but give them every opportunity to realize their potential as a mother and an individual.

This project will give young mothers and expectant mothers:

  • an opportunity to continue their high school education using an alternative schedule
  • the opportunity to have child care while they work on academic courses to complete their high school diploma
  • the skills needed to find jobs in the community
  • the experience of partnering with others to meet a common and/or individual goal
  • an opportunity to improve their own self esteem through goal setting and success
  • an opportunity to mentor others
