If you have ever set a goal so high you can’t achieve it, and then worked for it day after day, day after day, day after day, you know it’s not about the Goal. I’m going to be real. Mind mapping is really… awkward. But for those of you who have difficulty plucking words from the sky that bear any resemblance to one another, or to anything meaningful at all. I want to put your mind at ease: You’re not alone.

Mind mapping, for those who are curious, is a great method for solving problems like “What do I want to study in college or how is this online Math class relevant to what I want to do.” “Ideation” is what they call it, which means generating ideas creatively. 

So, the act of mind mapping aims to affect our creative side, so more ideas flow, so we can find better solutions whether it’s that online Math problem or something after you finish online high school. Literally, when creating a mind map, you write a central idea in the center of your paper and then connect ideas and words to that central idea. When you have that, connect more ideas and words to those ideas and words. So it looks like a spider’s web that caught a bunch of ideas and words instead of flies.

A great starting point, even before penning your first thought is to begin to develop a genuine affection for words. Especially being an online high school student, words are extremely important because you aren’t really face-to-face with your teachers or other staff all the time. 

Words are hands down, the most powerful thing on the planet. With words, anything, and everything that has ever happened-happened because of words. Some people have the most mind-boggling imaginations, but without words, they don’t become Disneyland or Google or the theory of relativity.

Not every scratch on your mind map needs to have the potential to change the world. Developing a respect for the potential you can create by simply webbing words together is a great place to begin your masterpiece. Today I said Yes in a business world (you can substitute free online high school) that keeps wanting to teach me to say No.

It’s— again, I don’t know how to put words to this; but when you get to meet people like this that are the principal, and a certified scrum master of a high school! Where you have got students running in scrum rhythm, and you get students learning in a team where they’ve increased their graduation rate phenomenally. Hope High School is the school for which is the last resort for many kids. They’re there for a lot of different reasons—many not of their own doing—and to walk in here and see the joy that these kids have, the hope (for lack of a better word) that they have for their future. One of the kids graduated today and so they have graduation the moment the kid hits the accumulation of hours. They stop everything. Every kid stops everything and then come out and celebrate the joy that someone graduated on that day.

I wish everybody can come in and see Krissyn Sumare and see Mark French, and see the people here and get to watch these kids go to a scrum board manage their work and look at their working agreements on the wall. To see it up close and personal. I am getting to go from here to actually a CSM class where a group of the teachers and a group of the students are actually in and learning. So I’m hoping they will give me enough permission maybe to do a follow up with them so I’m heading there now. But if you’re not paying attention to agile education or scrum in education I think you should. It will definitely pull on your heartstrings! These kids did for me. Thanks!

It’s April and summer is coming quick. Lots of things are happening; planning summer vacations, scheduling summer babysitting, summer jobs, and high school graduation.

Today (March 22, 2019) Michael Porpora, President West Division at OnePoint Patient Care spoke to the JAG students at Hope High School about careers in pharmacy.  Also, to the delight of the students, he brought pizza!
Mr. Porpora explained that the field of pharmacy is open to high school graduates who can begin as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
